is Calisthenics
|
Calisthenics is a
unique sport to Australia and is one of the fastest growing artistic
sports. Calisthenics is a combination of exercise and
gymnastics, marching, singing, ballet, folk and modern dance and
promotes health and fitness to all involved. Calisthenics
encourages physical development, coordination, self-discipline and
team spirit. It develops an
appreciation of music and rhythm, and the excitement of
performing on the stage.
There are various disciplines learnt within calisthenics,
including: |

March - Marching
team executes many intricate floor patterns, deportment an uniformity
remain the most important.
Clubs - Pupils
are required to swing clubs in unison with perfect rhythm and
uniformity in a planing or circular action.
Free Exercises -
This item is performed with gymnastic style movements, flexibility and
control make up this exciting routine.
Rods - Based
upon similar movements to 'Freearm' with the added challenge of
manipulating a rod.
Aesthetics -
This is a graceful flowing performance to interpret music with facial
and body expression.
Song - Involves
singing and acting to tell the audience a story. Children enjoy
acting out fantasies and make-believe whilst singing their favourite
rhymes and songs.
Song & Dance
- This item combines singing with modern dance.
Folk Dance -
Folk Dance is a display of National Folk Dancing from all regions of
the world.
Spectacular Display
- The performance involves all aspects of calisthenics from
gymnastics, flex, singing, dancing, comedy, acting and often costume
changes to bring to the audiences what could be described as a mini
production.
** There are also solo
items for exceptionally talented students.
