History - Calisthenics had its origins in Victoria and was
bought to Queensland in 1978 by Rae Mazzoletti. Rae
Mazzoletti was 13 years old when she started calisthenics at
Clifton Calisthenics College in Victoria. She helped
start Mordialloc Presbyterian (Sunshine Club) in 1952 and
later moved to Mordialloc Methodist and Chelsea Girls Club
where she coached for 7 years before moving to Queensland.
She established Suncoast Calisthenics Club in Maroochydore
on the Sunshine Coast with just a handful of participants in
a small church hall. In 1990 we became incorporated
and now have an average enrolment of 50 members.
Suncoast is one of nine clubs in Queensland and participate
regularly in regional and state competitions
What is Calisthenics
Calisthenics is
one of the fastest growing artistic sports in Australia that people of
all ages can participate in, either recreational or competitive.
It is a combination of dance, ballet, gymnastics, singing and apparatus
technique, designed to develop strength, poise, discipline, teamwork,
self esteem and confidence in its participants.
Calisthenics originated in Victoria and was developed from various forms
of Physical Culture and Dance.
Calisthenics! We love it!
